Latest Subaru WRX  gained newfound civility without losing any of the performance that made it so popular in the first place. For the 2016 Subaru WRX, the taming continues with the addition of driver-assist technologies and Subaru’s newest navigation system. However, they retain the all-wheel drive and powerful turbocharged 4-cylinder engines that have made them favorites of those who want high performance at a (relatively) low price, and WRX models are even available with an automatic transmission.
Behold the answer to the secret prayers of thousands of Northeasterners, folks. You see, sunny days up there come so infrequently, residents have to soak up every watt of sunlight possible when they have a chance—but at the same time, they need to deal with winding roads, steep hills, and slippery surfaces. Factor in the need to carry supplies or friends and family along and the desire for something fun to drive, and finding one car to handle it all becomes nearly impossible.
Hence, the Subaru WRX convertible, commissioned by Manchester Subaru of Manchester, N.H. The dealership’s owner, Todd Berkowitz, ordered the car from Newport Specialty Cars, Inc., in order to fulfill his desire for an open-top performance sedan. Newport Specialty beefed up the car’s chassis to maintain the car’s rigidity, and according to Berkowitz and his team of engineers, the converted car turned out strong enough to live up to the machismo requirements of even the boldest New Englanders.
Sadly for all those who dream of going topless in an STI, only five examples will be made; of course, a price of $74,999 ($41,004 more than a base STI) will probably ward quite a few people off as well. Still, if you’ve got the cash, we’re willing to bet this is one hell of a fun ride.
